On June 4, Soaky Mountain Waterpark officials, together with state and local tourism officials, celebrated the official grand opening of our massive, 50-acre waterpark.

On hand to cut the official grand opening ribbon were Boomer, together with Brenda McCroskey from the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce; Dave Andrews, Soaky Mountain Waterpark; Pete Tennis, Wilderness Resorts and Waterparks; Zach Ledbetter, Tennessee Tourism Commission; Joe Eck, Wilderness Resorts and Waterparks; Tom Lucke, Wilderness Resorts and Waterparks; Tim Gantz, Wilderness Resorts and Waterparks; and Sevierville Mayor Robbie Fox cut the official grand opening ribbon.

As part of the grand opening event, there was a Slide Race for Charity to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Smoky Mountain, Friends of the Smokies, Sevier County Food Ministries, and United Way of Sevier County. Dave Andrews, general manager of Soaky Mountain Waterpark, Pete Tennis Managing Director for Wilderness Development Corp, and two of Wilderness Resorts and Waterparks owners, Tom Lucke and Tim Gantz, each represented one charity and raced down Splash and Furious matt racers attraction as fast as they could.

The winning racer was Dave Andrews representing Friends of the Smokies who was presented with a $3,000 first prize. The second-fourth place winning charities each received $1,000.
